Where I grew up always felt like such an isolating place, with nothing to do and nowhere to go. In my younger years this place seemed vastly unwelcoming and my desire to leave it was only growing the older i got. Now as a young adult having moved away for some time, I have come to understand how perceptions change. The more I visited home the more I understood that it was a hard place to grow up but I was never as alone as I had thought. Coming back to a place like this, a home, gives you a different perspective. Watching the places that I was so attached to change was heartbreaking and I realized that although this place has it’s downfalls it is also one with so many memories. The people and places became more nostalgic and i realized that those things had a great influence on my life and who I am.
In this series i realized that the parts i hated about home were just things i rebelled against and now i see those same things through a lens of yearning and humour. Norfolk county, in rural Ontario is my home and a place i will always be drawn back to.
